Leon reached the Liga MX Final by first defeating a 12th seeded Puebla 3-2 in the quarter-finals. Leon lost the first leg against Puebla 2-1, but was able to overcome the first leg deficit with a 2-0 home victory.

Leon then went on to defeat Chivas 2-1 in the semifinals. Leon tied 1-1 in the first leg in Guadalajara, and finished off Chivas with a 1-0 victory in Leon. Although the score might not show it, Leon were dominant over Chivas, never really looking like they were in danger.

Pumas squeaked past Pachuca in the quarter-finals with a 1-0 aggregate victory. The 1-0 away win was enough to get them through to the semi-finals.

As is now famously known and will be for the rest of Liga MX history, Pumas reached the finals after overcoming a 4-0 first leg deficit against Cruz Azul in the semi-finals.

Cruz Azul did what Cruz Azul does, and choked away a 4-0 lead by losing the second leg by the same score. Pumas have all the momentum on their side, though they will face the toughest opponent in Leon.

Leon has been a master at controlling the speed of the game, slowing it down to suit their style. I expect Pumas will be unable to take a lead in the first leg, and the score will end in a 1-1 draw that gives a slight advantage to Leon heading into the second leg.
