Miguel Herrera’s team could really use a win as the Mexico City side is currently on a three-game winless streak heading into the playoffs. The centre-back partnership of Emanuel Aguilera and Bruno Valdez will be key in this game to contain Veracruz’s Cristian Menendez and also strike on set pieces.
Veracruz has been one of the worst teams in the Liga MX 2018 Apertura, currently dead last with just 10 points. The port city team is looking to avoid finishing last on the relegation table to avoid a substantial fee at the end of next season and needs as many points as it can get.
For now, interim manager Hugo Chavez will round out the tournament until Fidel Kuri and Veracruz’s front office find a new manager. Los Tiburones Rojos are coming off a solid 2-2 draw against Queretaro at home, but have not won a game since August 25 and only have one win on the road this semester.
