Seven players that have played for both Puebla & Chivas

One of the most enticing matchups in Week 15 of the Liga MX 2018 Apertura will be Puebla hosting Chivas at the Estadio Cuauhtemoc as both teams are chasing a playoff spot. Both teams have plenty of history and there have been several players that have represented both clubs, here are seven.

Jared Borgetti

Borgetti is much better known for his time with Santos Laguna and the Mexico national team, but he did play for both Chivas and Puebla in 2009. The Mexican striker scored just five league goals in 22 total games for both clubs and all came with La Franja as he was a total bust for Chivas.

Alberto Medina

“Venado” made his professional debut with Chivas at just 17 years old in 2000 and went on to play with Los Rojiblancos until 2012. Medina was a key player in Chivas’ 2006 Apertura championship team and also won the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup with the Mexico national team. The Culiacan native played with Puebla towards the end of his career, where he scored just one goal in 17 games from the Apertura 2013 to the Clausura 2014.

Patricio Araujo

Araujo is another player that played for both teams that was part of Chivas’ 2006  Apertura championship run. “Pato” played with El Rebano Sagrado from 2005-2015, then went on to finish his playing career with Puebla from 2015-2018. The 30-year-old is not officially retired, but is currently not competing on grass, rather on the sand in the Mexican reality show “Exatlon”.

Sergio Perez

“Cherokee” is a Puebla youth product and went on to have over 100 appearances with his hometown club from 2005-2010 and a brief stint in the 2015 Clausura. The Mexican fullback had a brief stint with Chivas in the Clausura 2013 before bouncing around with other clubs and finally ending his career with Venados de Merida in 2017.

Rodolfo Cota

The Mexican goalkeeper is one of the fan-favorites from Chivas’ 2017 Clausura championship team, but also won a Copa MX title with Puebla in the 2015 Clausura. Cota has fallen off since joining Leon this season, but his incredible run with Chivas, where he won five total titles will not be forgotten.

Daniel Guzman

The Guadalajara native was a solid forward for both teams in the mid to late 90’s and also had short managing stints with both clubs as well. Guzman scored 19 goals for Chivas from 1994-1996 and made the playoffs in his first major managing gig with Los Rojiblancos in the 2002 Apertura. “El Travieso” scored 12 goals for Los Camoteros from 1996-1997 and managed only 10 games for Puebla in 2012.

Jose Manuel De La Torre

“Chepo” is the only player that has lifted a Liga MX title with both teams as he was part of Puebla’s most recent championship team in the 1989-1990 season and also played with Chivas in their 1986-1987 season title-run.
