Mexican players shine in Matchday 3 of the UEFA Champions League

This Wednesday, October 24, 2018, Mexican players in European leagues had one of their best days of the year collectively. Hirving Lozano of PSV Eindhoven, Hector Herrera and Jesus Manuel Corona of Porto all played in the UEFA Champions League and all had impressive performances.

“Chucky” Lozano has been one of the best players in the Dutch Eredivisie with eight goals scored, but was yet to score in the UCL. The Mexican winger broke that mark this Wednesday as he scored his first-ever Champions League goal to help PSV get a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur. The 23-year-old winger used his speed to take advantage of an error by Spurs’ defender Toby Alderweireld and managed to get past Hugo Lloris.

In Russia, Hector Herrera and Jesus Manuel Corona both scored in FC Porto’s 3-1 win against Lokomotiv Moscow. “Tecatito” had one of his best games this season as he did have that goal, but also provided the assist on Hector Herrera’s goal.

Corona crossed the ball into the penalty area and found the Porto captain as he powered through with a header to find the back of the net. “Tecatito” then scored a goal of his own to secure Porto’s win as he used his pace to beat out Lokomotiv’s defense and rifle a near-post shot in the right side of the penalty area.

The win propelled the Portuguese giants to first in Group D of the Champions League, while PSV continues to struggle, last in Group B with just one point.
