Alisson can become Liverpool hero- Kirkland

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland believes that Alisson Becker can go on to become a hero at Anfield.

Alisson was brought to Anfield during the summer transfer window in order to solve the goalkeeping problem which has been prevalent at the club during the past few years. Both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius failed to convince the Kop that they were capable of holding down the starting role at the club on a regular basis.

The Reds have been tipped to launch a title challenge this season after a promising summer transfer window. They have so far looked superb in the League thus far, as they have so far won all four of their top-flight games.

Alisson has been superb for the most part and has kept three clean sheets from the four games which he has played so far. However, he did make an error during the club’s last game against Leicester City, as he gifted Rachid Ghezzal with a simple tap-in.

Alisson’s error did not prove to be too costly, as the Reds recorded a 2-1 victory. However, the keeper cannot afford to make this type of error when the Reds play against Tottenham this weekend or he could be punished by the likes of Lucas Moura, Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and the others within Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Former Liverpool keeper Kirkland has backed Alisson.

He said as quoted by The Belfast Telegraph: “Let’s hope so, I hope so. He has been brought in to do that.

“Obviously there have been a lot of players that have come in. We needed Virgil van Dijk in defence and he’s come in and made a huge, huge difference and that is what we all hope will happen with Alisson.”
