Venados de Merida has been one of the worst teams in the Copa MX with no points and a goal differential of negative five. The team from Yucatan has also been struggling in the Ascenso MX, currently in 11th place, coming off a scoreless draw against Potros UAEM in Week 7 of the competition.
Former Liga MX striker Bruno Marioni is Merida’s manager and he has some former Liga MX players on his squad like goalkeeper Armando Navarrete and ex-Puebla midfielder Aldo Polo. Los Venados can no longer make the Copa MX knockout stage and will just be playing for pride at this stage of the competition.
Puebla needs to win this game to make the Copa MX round of 16 out of Group 1 and would ideally need to win by a few goals to get a higher seeding in the playoffs. Los Camoteros are coming off an impressive 2-1 win against Monterrey in the Liga MX and will ride on that momentum to get a favorable result in Yucatan.
Enrique Meza should present a strong starting lineup for this match as the 18-man roster he selected for the game did include plenty of experienced players. Some of the more intriguing players to watch in this game for La Franja include Bryan Angulo, Christian Tabo, Francisco Acuna, Cristian Palacios and Felix Micolta. Puebla has a win against Merida and a draw and loss against Monterrey in this Copa MX group stage and will now try and defeat Venados for the second time.

Venados will have the home-field advantage, but the Ascenso MX side has only won one game in all competitions at the Carlos Iturralde this season. Puebla has the much better team and did defeat Los Astados 1-0 the last time the two teams met at the Estadio Cuauhtemoc in this Copa MX tournament. FutnSoccer predicts a 3-1 win for La Franja in a game that could have plenty of goals and potentially be very entertaining.
