Both teams have plenty of history in Mexican football and there has been a number of players that have played for both teams, here are three players that have worn both jerseys in their careers.

Andres Andrade

“El Rifle” came to the Liga MX in 2013 with Club America and he has stayed in Mexican football since then, playing with Las Aguilas, Chiapas, Leon and Atlas. The Colombian midfielder played with Los Azulcremas for a couple of seasons, but then was transferred to Leon in 2016. Andrade stayed with Leon until 2018 and amassed 27 league appearances and four goals, with America “Rifle” had over 60 appearances, eight goals and a CCL title in 2016.

Raul Gutierrez

“El Potro” is now more known for his work as a manager with Mexico’s youth national teams, winning the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2011. As a player, Gutierrez was one of the best fullbacks in the Liga MX and played with Club America from 1994-2001, before retiring with Leon in 2002.

Kalusha Bwalya

There have been very few African-born players to grace the Liga MX, but Kalusha is definitely one of the more notable ones. Bwalya reached Mexico in Mexico in 1994 with Club America and he was a great player for Las Aguilas, being a key player in the attack. The Zambia international then went on to play for other Mexican teams like Veracruz, Correcaminos, Irapuato and Leon in 1998.
