This Tuesday, August 7, 2018 (5:00 PM Pacific) Pumas UNAM will host Necaxa at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario for a game in the third round of matches in the 2018 Apertura edition of the Copa MX. Both teams are undefeated in the Copa MX and should provide a very entertaining match that will decide the leadership in Group 4.
Pumas UNAM has been one of the best teams in the Liga MX, currently undefeated with nine points after three games and also has a win in its only Copa MX game. That game was a 2-1 win against Ascenso MX side Tampico Madero in the opening week of the competition. Marcelo Diaz and Martin Rodriguez scored the goals that led to Pumas’ victory, but it is unclear if either player will feature in this encounter.
Some of the likely candidates to get the start in this match include players like David Cabrera, Brian Figueroa, Andres Iniestra and Matias Alustiza. Alustiza is the game changer here as he is still a very dangerous player in front of net that can be lethal inside of the penalty area.
Necaxa defeated Tampico Madero 1-0 last week to get its first points in this Copa MX tournament. Los Rayos have been solid after three games in the Liga MX with two wins, including one against Club America.
Marcelo Michel Leano has a talented core of players that could start in this game that includes Martin Barragan, Daniel Alvarez, Carlos Villanueva, Luis Perez and Alejandro Mayorga. The 31-year-old Leano has had Copa MX success in the past with teams like Coras FC and Zacatepec and will try and repeat that success with Necaxa.
