This Friday, August 3, 2018 (5:00 PM Pacific) Veracruz will host Monarcas Morelia at the Estadio Luis “Pirata” Fuente for a game in the third round of matches in the Liga MX 2018 Apertura. Both teams are yet to look convincing so far, but should present a hard-fought match for the three points in the port city.

Veracruz is coming off a 2-0 loss to Lobos BUAP in Week 2 of the competition and is still yet to score in 180 minutes of play. Los Tiburones Rojos have an above average goalkeeper in Pedro Gallese, but really lack in other areas of the squad.

The defense is very inconsistent and the attack does not seem very dangerous without Daniel Villava, who is now at Queretaro. Los Escualos will have the home-field advantage in this clash, which is really the only hope of getting a win as the “Pirata” Fuente can be a very tough place to visit.

Monarcas Morelia is coming off an impressive 3-1 win against the current Liga MX champions Santos Laguna. But, also suffered a 2-0 loss against Toluca in Week 1 of the competition and still looks like a team that could struggle without Raul Ruidiaz.

The attack is promising with Diego Valdes, Carlos Fierro and Ray Sandoval, but Irven Avila does not look like the best option up front. La Monarquia has been a consistent playoff team over the past few seasons, but will need to win games like these to stay in the picture.

Prediction

This should prove to be a slow paced, hard-fought, physical encounter at the Estadio Luis “Pirata” Fuente. FutnSoccer predicts a 1-1 draw between the two teams with the home-field advantage giving Veracruz life in this clash.
