Mexico’s World Cup preparation for Russia 2018 has officially begun, and this Monday, May 28, 2018 (6:00 PM Pacific) they will host Wales at the majestic Rose Bowl in Pasadena. This will be ‘el tri’s’ first of three friendlies prior to their first game against Germany in Moscow on June 17.
Juan Carlos Osorio’s team enters this friendly with many injuries, and with players out of shape. Recently, defender Nestor Araujo announced that he would not be in full shape for the World Cup, therefore, he was officially removed from the final 23-player roster.
Other injuries in this group include defenders Hector Moreno, Diego Reyes, and Andres Guardado. Brother Giovani and Jonathan Dos Santos recently returned from muscular injuries which have affected their forms and puts their presence in Russia at risk.
This match will not allow fans to see Mexico’s strongest side, yet it will allow Osorio to note which four players are not in the appropriate form and shape to make the final 23-player list. Expect Mexico to dominate in front of over 70,000 fans against a Wales side that will not have Champions League final hero Gareth Bale. However, players like Aaron Ramsey or Kanu will test Mexico defensive tactics.
