Celtic battled to a 3-2 Scottish Cup victory over Partick Thistle on Saturday, bouncing back from their disappointing league loss to Kilmarnock last weekend.
The visitors threatened to get a result, coming back twice to set up a nervy finish for manager Brendan Rodgers and his men, and the Hoops defensive shortcomings were once again laid bare.
Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton didn’t hold back in his criticism as usual, going on Twitter to reveal: “Forrest on fire at the treble. Defensively still all at sea but the treble still on for Celtic! Thistle put up a good contest”
It took the solo efforts of hattrick hero James Forrest to secure a quarterfinal berth for Celtic, with a dreadful piece of defending from Jozo Simunovic gifting Thistle their opening goal.
The centre-back made a dreadful back pass that was intercepted, and while he’s to blame this time around, it would be another defender another day.
The likes of Barcelona, PSG and Bayern Munich continue to tear Celtic part on the continental level, and Saturday’s display would have done little to allay fans’ worries as the club prepare for next Thursday’s Europa League last-32 first leg clash against Zenit.
