Ex-Liverpool star Bellamy questions quality of this West Ham player

Former Liverpool star Craig Bellamy has said that he feels that Patrice Evra is no longer the same player after the veteran defender completed a move to West Ham this week.

The 36-year-old Evra has not played competitively since November after Marseille terminated his contract following a controversial incident in which the player kicked a fan during a Europa League game.

With Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell not playing regularly under David Moyes, the Scot felt that he needed extra cover in the left-back position and he has subsequently brought in Evra.

Evra and Moyes worked together at Manchester United during the infamous 2013-14 season. Moyes was sacked less than a season into his time as manager of United while it was Evra’s last season with the Red Devils.

“He hasn’t been the same player in the past four or five years,” said Bellamy. “His last year at Juventus was really poor, and he isn’t the same player he was when he worked [under Moyes] four years ago.”

“Age catches up with you, and he’s in that position. It’s a great move for him and his experience will be great for a club like West Ham, but I don’t believe they’re going to get much out of him playing-wise,” he added.
