According to The Guardian, Leeds United have officially appointed Paul Heckingbottom as the new chief of staff after the club sacked Thomas Christiansen last weekend. BBC Radio Leeds claims that Leeds have activated Heckingbottom’s £500,000 release clause to take him to Elland Road from Barnsley.
The Whites are in serious crisis at the moment, as they have failed to win in their last seven Championship games, drastically reducing their chances of attaining Premier League promotion.
Therefore, club executives expect from the new manager to boost squad’s morale ahead of a highly important game against Sheffield United next Saturday.
Leeds have been very active on the market this winter, trying to improve the team ahead of the second part of the season.
Having spent over £7 million, they were hoping to return to the Premier League, but unless something changes quickly, they will spend another year away from the top-flight.
However, it is a little bit confusing that Leeds decided to take Heckingbottom considering his rather unsuccessful spell with Barnsley.
