According to the Daily Express, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has tried to explain his decision not to sign anyone after the departures of Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge in January.
The former Borussia Dortmund coach believes that club could make better deals over the summer, rather than spend crazy figures in January.
Since Coutinho joined Barcelona, several names have been associated with Liverpool, including James Rodriguez, Riyad Mahrez, Thomas Lemar, and Manuel Lanzini.
However, the Reds have been quiet after the signing of Virgil Van Dijk, which seems pretty unreasonable considering the Brazilian playmaker’s importance for the squad.
Klopp has now attempted to justify the lack of January signings by saying, “Yes, we could have done something. But we need really the right thing. The right thing now, you don’t get.
“The 100% right thing, only for completely crazy money that really makes no sense. I’m not even sure that would work. And in the summer it looks different.”
On the other hand, the Merseyside club have been experiencing all kinds of trouble with their backline, which forced them to spend £75 million for Van Dijk.
Still, if wasting such amount of money for a defender is not crazy, maybe Klopp made a mistake by not investing £90 million in Thomas Lemar.
