Rangers have finally secured the services of Hamilton midfielder Greg Docherty following several days of negotiations.
While the 5th Ger signing of the January transfer window comes with lots of promises following another splendid topflight campaign with the Accies, his arrival could be the final straw for the dwindling Rangers career of Niko Kranjcar.
The 33-year-old playmaker has played only 7 league games this term, failing to complete a game in the 4 starts he has been afforded.
With just 367 minutes of SPFL football under his belt during the first half of the season, Kranjcar’s playing time is set to drastically reduce with Docherty now in the squad.
The ex-Croatia international was once again on the bench during Wednesday’s 2-nil win over Aberdeen, and while a January exit isn’t on the cards, it could be the best option to salvage the remaining of his professional career.
The contract of the former Dinamo Zagreb, Hajduk Split, Portsmouth, Tottenham, Dynamo Kyiv, Queens Park Rangers and New York Cosmos man expires by summer, but his Rangers career might have already ended the moment Docherty was announced.
