Leeds United reportedly to seal deal for English stopper come summer

According to Yorkshire Evening Post’s chief football writer Phil Hay, Leeds have plans to tie down Everton loanee Matthew Pennington to a permanent deal, but will most likely wait till summer before approaching the Premier League club.

An injury-ravaged campaign has limited the 23-year-old to just 12 Championship games since his arrival at Elland Road on a season-long loan last summer.

Nevertheless, Pennington has put in impressive performances worthy of a long-term deal, but it remains to be seen if Everton are keen to cash in.

The England youth international was solid at the back when he came off the bench against Millwall at the weekend, and should he keep on putting in such displays, Leeds will be more than happy to sanction a permanent deal for him.

The Whites need quality players going forward if they are return to the Premier League, and a player of Pennington’s potential could be a perfect long-term addition.
