Sunderland set to appeal against Ndong’s red card against Cardiff

Sunderland are set to appeal the red-card which Didier Ndong received during their 4-0 demolition at the hands of Cardiff City this weekend.

After four minutes during the second half, Ndong was given a straight red-card following a tackle on Junior Hoilett of Cardiff.

Black Cats boss Chris Coleman believes that the decision made by referee Andy Madley was too harsh as Ndong got his foot on the ball before catching Hoilett with the follow-through.

The Wearsiders will now launch an appeal against the three match ban which comes along with the red-card.

Coleman said after the game: “The sending off – sometimes they are given, sometimes they are not. The referee has got a decision to make and then you are on a wing and a prayer.

“You can look at it two ways, his studs are up onto the ball, then his foot hits the ball and then the Cardiff boy quite high. I’ve seen them given, I’ve seen them not given.”
