West Ham United reportedly chasing Celtic target

According to the Daily Star, West Ham have entered the race for the signing of Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson. Celtic and Everton have both shown interest in his signature and the player’s valuation is around £50 million.

The 23-year-old defender has been among the best young centre-backs in Premier League over the last two seasons. He arrived at Swansea from Barnsley for a fee of £5.5 million in 2016 and signed a 4 year deal then.

Swansea are struggling this season, and manager Carlos Carvalhal would rather keep his best defender to help him avoid relegation as they are currently at the bottom of the table.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers wants to bring a quality defender because Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko are both expected to leave Celtic Park in this transfer window.

However, West Ham could be a tough competitor, as David Moyes looks to strengthen the squad to maintain a Premier League status this year.
