Aston Villa man reportedly wanted by the Championship rivals

According to the Birmingham Mail, Millwall F.C. are looking to sign Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick on a loan deal.

Elphick arrived at Villa Park from Bournemouth back in 2016 but failed to make an impact, and his departure in January has been expected.

He was already near exit last summer. Sunderland and Birmingham City had both shown interest for the 30-year-old defender during the summer, but there have been no concrete moves by either side.

Villa manager Steve Bruce has nothing against former Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back, but the lions already have John Terry, Micah Richards, Christopher Samba, and James Chester to cover the role of central defender.

The former Hull City boss has already announced that he wouldn’t stop any of his players if they want to leave the club.

“I’m mindful of the fact a good pro like Tommy wants to play, so we’ll see. I have no problems with not letting anyone out,” he said.

On the other hand, Millwall chief of staff, John Berylson would like to reinforce his backline, as Tony Craig and James Meredith need some backup.
