Newcastle United star Shelvey slams former club

Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has said that his former club Swansea City have lost their identity.

The Swans are rooted to the bottom of the League standings after taking 16 points from their 22 matches played thus far and after narrowly avoiding relegation last season, they look destined for the drop this season.

Shelvey moved from the Swans to Newcastle almost two years ago with his transfer coming amidst soured relations between him and a number of fans of the club.

Since Shelvey left the club, they have had six different managers with Carlos Carvalhal now the man tasked to keep them in the League.

“They have chopped and changed the managers to be fair and I don’t think that has helped them,” Shelvey told NUFC TV.

“I think they need to get back playing the way they played football. Even when I was at Liverpool you wouldn’t see the ball for a lot of the time.

“When I went there everything was about ball possession, all of our work was about the football and we were battering teams at home with the ball – even against the top teams.

“They have gone away from that a little bit which is obviously down to whatever manager they had in at the time.”
