Leeds United have had issues at left-back, and while the makeshift and right-footed Gaetano Berardi hasn’t exactly been bad in the position, an upgrade is needed.
Clearly, Manchester United loanee Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is clearly not the answer, and with the youngster heading back to Old Trafford, another player from the EPL in Southampton’s Sam McQueen could be on his way to Elland Road.
According to the print version of The Sun (via Express), the 22-year-old is on Leeds’ radar, although they have Championship rivals Brentford and Reading to battle for his signature.
McQueen is without a doubt Leeds’ answer to their left-back conundrum. From being on the bench during an unsuccessful loan spell at League One’s Southend 2 seasons ago, to starting against Manchester United last month, the career of the England youth international has taken a turn for good.
Despite being a left winger primarily, McQueen has adapted well defensively, playing 5 league games this term, while also playing for England under-21in the role and earning the manager’s praise.
The Saints are keen on seeing that splendid development continue, and will allow McQueen leave on loan as he’s behind Ryan Bertrand and Matt Targett in the pecking order.
The 2014-15 U21 Premier League Cup winner surely has everything it takes to be the left-back Leeds badly desire as the conclusive half of the campaign gets underway.
