This Friday, January 5, 2018 (5:00 PM Pacific) the Liga MX is back in full swing as Puebla host Tigres UANL at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc for the first game of the Liga MX Clausura 2018. The game is set to be the biggest mismatch of the weekend but could potentially be a competitive encounter.
Puebla has gradually been on the rise since hiring manager Enrique Meza in week 13 of the Liga MX Apertura 2017. La Franja pulled off some impressive results with “Ojitos” on the sidelines including a 2-0 win against Monterrey and a 1-1 draw with Club America at the Estadio Azteca. There were some standout players in the Apertura 2017 that are still on the team like Christian Marrugo, Brayan Angulo and Lucas Cavallini.
Los Camoteros made some interesting moves this off season by signing Bolivian midfielder Alejandro Chumacero, Peruvian defender Anderson Santamaria and Colombian attacking midfielder Omar Fernandez. Fernandez is particularly intriguing as he was said to be one of the best players in the Peruvian league with Melgar.
Even with these interesting signings and the home-field advantage, Puebla will have the almost impossible task of trying to take down the Apertura 2017 champions. The Felines have been very quiet in the transfer window only signing Colombian forward Arley Rodriguez. Ricardo Ferretti still counts with the best squad in the Liga MX with players like Andre-Pierre Gignac, Eduardo Vargas, Enner Valencia and Javier Aquino.
The last time these two teams played, Tigres came away with a dominant 5-0 win with a hat-trick from Enner Valencia. This game could be closer as it is at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc but it does seem like Ricardo Ferretti’s men have the edge going into the game.
