The Sky Sport says that Aston Villa boss Tony Xia has confirmed that goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who is on loan from Manchester United, will stay at the club until the end of the season.
There were some reports recently about possible interest from West Brom for the 24-year-old shot-stopper, but Aston Villa wants to retain him after brilliant performances over the first half of the season.
This is Johnstone’s second loan spell at the Villa Park. The goalkeeper has spent a last second half of the season, where he has proved to be more than reliable – which earned him a second spell in the summer.
Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce wants to keep Johnstone at the club at all costs, as he considers him an indispensable first team member and there are some rumors which suggest that Championship’ club will try to secure the goalkeeper’s services permanently.
David De Gea’ situation at Manchester United will have a significant influence on the young keeper though, and it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils would like to discuss a possible sale.
