Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that his side are “sad and disappointed” following their 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City on Saturday.

Pochettino said after the game: “It’s normal, they are sad and disappointed, massive frustration. We tried to compete, we tried to win but in the end they were better and if you make some mistakes in this kind of game, you are going to lose. Yes, we’re disappointed because our expectation was different but now we look forward.”

Spurs went into the game as underdogs and while there is no shame in losing to City who are on a 15 match unbeaten run, the manner at which they lost was humiliating.

Some slack defending gifted IIkay Gundogan with an opening goal after the German international found himself unmarked from Leroy Sane’s early corner kick.

City were then sparked into life during the final 20 minutes as Kevin de Bruyne went on to add the second while Raheem Sterling scored a late brace.
