Everton boss Allardyce makes worrying admission about star midfielder

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that he will not be able to prevent Ross Barkley from leaving the Toffees in January if that is what the player and owners of the club agree.

Barkley’s current contract at Goodison Park is set to expire at the end of the season and he has not penned a new deal which means that the Toffees could lose him for free if he remains at the club beyond January.

Though he has yet to play this season due to injury, Barkley is in high demand with the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham believed to be interested.

The 24-year-old turned down the chance to join Chelsea in August with some believing that he is holding out for a move to Spurs.

“It’s a difficult one,” the Toffees boss confessed when asked about Barkley’s future.

“I haven’t had the opportunity yet to find out the true, or the whole, scenario and say, ‘Where does it lie?’ and then make a decision one way or the other.

“I’m not in control of that in too many ways. If someone comes in during January and says ‘Here you go’ and the club say, ‘Look, if he’s not going to sign for us, this has to be the case’ then I accept that.”
