Celtic reportedly want silverware-winning defender as Compper move falls through

Celtic vs Hearts

With RB Leipzig not willing to let their centre-back Marvin Compper leave in January, Celtic have identified another defensive target in Besiktas star Duško Tošić.

As per reports, the £2.5million rated ex-Portsmouth and QPR man, also a Tottenham target, is now top of manager Brendan Rodgers wishlist as another centre-back is still top priority when the transfer window reopens.

The Serbian international boasts of experience and silverware having played for 8 sides and won 5 trophies with 4 clubs in a career that has spanned over 16 seasons.

Tosic is also able to play at left-back, and his versatility is an added quality that will come handy at a side like Celtic.

The 32-year-old can also serve as a goal threat at the other end of the pitch, as he has weighed in 3 goals in 13 Super Lig appearances for Besiktas this term.

While the Serb has what it takes to be an upgrade on the likes of Dedryck Boyata and Nir Bitton, landing him midway through the season could be impossible.

Tosic only just helped Besiktas secure a round-of-16 berth in the Champions League, while the Turkish giants are only 5 points behind leaders Galatasaray on the league log after 15 games.

There is a lot to play for in Turkey until summer, and only an offer the club will be unable to turn down can get Celtic their man.
