Liverpool boss Klopp slams referee following Everton draw

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is adamant that referee Craig Pawson was wrong in awarding a penalty to Everton during the Merseyside derby which denied his side victory.

The Reds were seemingly headed for victory after Mohamed Salah gave them the lead during the first half.

With just 13 minutes remaining however, Dejan Lovren was adjudged to have pushed over Dominic Calvert-Lewin inside the area and Wayne Rooney made no mistake in converting from the spot.

Klopp was unhappy at the decision and an angry Lovren also confronted the referee after the game.

“I don’t think it was a penalty,” Klopp said in the post-match media conference. “But obviously we can have a test now to see who thinks it was a penalty.

“Hands up if you thought it was… three? What, everyone? Then I am really wrong, obviously. The guy in the Everton jacket is really happy about that! That’s cool.

“That’s how it is. Obviously you all think it’s a penalty, then all the other challenges in midfield with Williams and Dom Solanke should have been a free-kick but this was a penalty?”

Considering the struggles which Everton have undergone this season, the draw will represent a positive result for them.
