Liverpool chief makes big admission about January transfer activity

Liverpool CEO Peter Moore has said that the club will continue to look for players to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window.

Liverpool did not make any additions to their squad during the last January transfer window and they also failed to sign one of their main summer targets Virgil van Dijk.

Moore has however suggested that the team could be set to make additions in January and dismissed criticism that they have not spent enough recently.

“The chemistry we bring on to the field isn’t about buying the most expensive players,” he said.

“We haven’t been shy — people look at the Mohamed Salah acquisition as the best one of the summer and we’re already bringing in Naby Keita [from RB Leipzig] next summer. That money has been spent, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has also been brought in.

“The investments are being made and it’s hard to knock what you’re seeing on the field now and say: ‘Oh, you should be spending more money.’

“What I will say, because I know you are leading up to the question about January, the club continues to look at acquisitions that will strengthen the squad.”

If Liverpool do look to strengthen, they should focus on signing quality defenders and perhaps a new goalkeeper.

They have looked solid in attack with the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah all doing well but their defence has looked sloppy at times.
