Celtic resume domestic action on Sunday when they travel to Easter Road Stadium to face Hibernian, and their 67-game unbeaten record could be under huge threat given the hosts were 10 minutes away from recording a famous win in their league clash back in September.
Hibs have been impressive in the Premiership since securing promotion, losing just thrice and centre-back Darren McGregor believes his side can stop the Hoops’ run come weekend.
The 32-year-old became famous for helping Hibs end a 114-year wait to lift the Scottish Cup last year, and now wants to set another record by helping to defeat Celtic.
McGregor told the press ahead of weekend’s showdown: “Ending Celtic’s unbeaten run would be an achievement but the run will be remembered as opposed to ending it whereas winning the Scottish Cup and promotion with Hibs is different.
“It’s a tremendous effort from Celtic and not just in Scottish football but the world over because you have to beat what’s in front of you.
“There’s lots of factors that can spring up and make that difficult so fair play to them to go out all these times and never be beaten. It is a hell of an achievement.
“But it is there to be broken and every team that plays them hopes it will be them and we’ll be working hard to try to do it.
“It’s some feat and records are there to be beaten and I believe in the games we’ve played them this season we’ve given them a bit of bother.”
Celtic have been unstoppable in Scotland in the last 18 months, and having already broken their century-old 62-game record, many are tipping them to go for the remainder of 2017-18 without a loss.
Given the resilience of a Hibs side with a massive home support, Brendan Rodgers’ men will have to put in another impressive performance in order to extend their lead at the top of the table and preserve their record.
