New Everton manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that he is not surprised that his club played poorly during their early season games given the busy period of fixtures which they had.
“I have to say, when I’ve looked at this season’s history of games played, players getting injured, it’s no wonder they have struggled in all honesty,” said Allardyce, as quoted by Sky Sports.
“The number of fixtures early on in the season, the amount of games played in the Europa Cup and then the League Cup and the Premier League and injuries on top of that.”
Allardyce, who has a reputation for saving clubs from relegation, was appointed as new Toffees manager last week and becomes the successor to Ronald Koeman after he was sacked in October.
Everton got off to a good start under Allardyce this weekend by recording a victory against Huddersfield Town through goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Dominic Calvert –Lewin.
Allardyce will be expected to strengthen the side during the January transfer window and bring in a new striker as the club have struggled in front of goal and are without a recognized forward following the departure of Romelu Lukaku during the summer.
