Liverpool hero Jan Molby was glad to see youngster Dominic Solanke being handed his first start for the Reds during their game against Stoke City this week and does not want the club to loan him out.
Solanke arrived at the Reds during the summer transfer window after an impressive showing for the England U20 side at the World Cup during the summer. He helped the Young Lions win the tournament and scored four goals in the process.
Solanke is widely expected to become a star of the future. Though he has so far failed to score from 12 games in all competitions for the Reds, he did show some good touches and set up the opening goal which was scored by Sadio Mane.
Molby said of Solanke, “Dominic Solanke probably should have scored at Stoke but he got himself some very valuable minutes on his first Premier League start.
“It was a slight surprise to see him start the game but it’s a little indication of what the club and Jurgen think of him. Klopp thinks he’s not a million miles away and that in itself is a good thing. As I’ve said before the boy just needs a goal and then he can go to the next level hopefully.
“There was some talk of sending him out on loan but if you’re that close and the club think that highly of you I don’t see the need. It appears that he’s got himself a little bit closer to the first team so I think getting minutes playing for Liverpool from time to time are more valuable.
“Not that there wouldn’t be clubs, even in the Premier League or certainly the Championship, who wouldn’t want to take him. He looks like a goalscorer in the making so people will think ‘I wouldn’t mind having him for six months’.”
