Celtic are set to be without on-loan winger Patrick Roberts for a long time, with the Englishman now back at Manchester City to assess the hamstring injury he picked up during Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw against Motherwell.
The 20-year-old has been in great form since returning to Parkhead for another loan stint, starting 10 games thus far and helping Celtic’s European campaign by weighing in a goal against Anderlecht.
While the exact duration Roberts will be spending on the sidelines hasn’t been revealed, manager Brendan Rodgers reckons it could be up to 3 months.
The Hoops boss said ahead of the 5-1 thrashing of ‘Well on Saturday: “Pat’s going to be a period of time, it could be anything up to three months.
“He’s gone back down to Man City. They’ll have look at it as well and have another scan on it. It’s just unfortunate he picked up that injury and we’ll have to wait on the scan result. He’ll certainly be out for the foreseeable future.”
There are fears Roberts might have really aggravated the knock considering it’s the 2nd time that he has injured a hamstring this season.
It could prove to be Celtic’s biggest injury blow of the campaign, considering the length of the setback and his influence.
In Roberts’ absence, the Hoops will have to do with James Forrest on the right wing, and it would be hoped he provides the right cover and services.
