This huge Celtic blow against Motherwell could turn out to be huge boost

Celtic vs Hearts

Celtic face another tough test as they attempt to extend their unbeaten domestic streak to 67 games when they clash with Motherwell on Saturday – their 3rd meeting in 7 days.

Hoops striker Moussa Dembele picked up an ankle injury in the Betfred League Cup final against ‘Well on Sunday, missing out of the midweek clash and is set to sit out of weekend’s game.

However, while his absence could deal a tough blow on Celtic’s chances, that he could return for Tuesday’s Champions League crucial game against Anderlecht is a big boost.

Manager Brendan Rodgers revealed ahead of weekend’s game: “Moussa was out on the pitch on Wednesday and Thursday, although not with the team.

“He and Nir Bitton were out with the rehab team so we’ll see how he is tomorrow – but he’s got a good chance for Tuesday night.

“Just from looking at him over the last couple of days and reports from the medical team I’d say he has a good chance.”

Celtic need at least a draw against the Belgium side to secure a berth in the Europa League round of 32, and the presence of Dembele will no doubt make things easier.

The French youngster has proven himself on the continent and definitely remains Rodgers’ first choice for such games.

In Leigh Griffiths, though, Celtic have another man that can get the job done against Motherwell in Dembele’s absence, so they should still emerge tops in what is expected to be a tough clash.
