Alan Curbishley has insisted that David Moyes was the correct choice of manager for West Ham. The Hammers parted ways with Slaven Bilic and appointed Moyes following their poor run of form early last month.

Under Moyes they have not shown much improvement and have only so far picked up one point from three League games under the former Everton and Manchester United boss.

Many fans of the East London club were sceptical when Moyes was appointed manager of the club as his previous three managerial stints with the likes of Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland were unsuccessful.

Curbishley however feels that the Scot was the right choice of appointment by saying, “I think players have to take responsibility for their performances, but the way of the world is it’s the manager that takes it on the chin.

“I remember Arsene Wenger saying the manager must be the most important component at a football club because when it goes wrong he’s sacked.”

He continued: “The recruitment in the summer – they brought a lot of players in – but because of injuries and a lack of form they don’t know their best first XI.

“I think once David sorts that out and gets them organised then they’ll pick up. I can’t see who would have been universally popular.

“You see the problems Everton have had. Who was out there? Ex-West Ham managers like Alan Pardew or Sam Allardyce?

“Or were they going to prise someone like Marco Silva? Look at the problems Everton had with that one even if he wanted to leave.

“I think West Ham moved swiftly and they’ve been quite up front. Here’s a short-term deal, keep us up and we’ll talk again.

“He seems grateful for the opportunity and there’s nothing wrong with having a hungry and angry manager.”
