Celtic were 2 minutes away from seeing their unbeaten streak stop at 65 games on Wednesday night against Motherwell, but Scott Sinclair came to the rescue as he put away an equalizer from the spot.
The 1-1 draw against ‘Well had its controversies, with claims from the home team that Callum McGregor easily went down under Andy Rose’s challenge in the box.
Sinclair maintained composure under a lot of pressure to take the Hoops’ impressive undefeated run to 66 games, and has earned praises from manager Brendan Rodgers.
The Northern Irishman claims the English winger remains the best player he knows that is capable of scoring from the spot under any type and form of pressure.
Having been a target of boos from the Fir Park faithful after he won a controversial penalty against them on Sunday, Sinclair’s feathers were unruffled, and Rodgers declared post-game: “There’s nobody better in that situation (referencing the 2011 Championship play-off final when Sinclair’s hat-trick helped Swansea clinch Premier League promotion).
“Scott scored two penalties for me at Wembley in front of over 90,000 people. Whether it’s 90,000, 60,000 or 9,000 like it was tonight, I’ll always fancy him to score.
“He tucked it away really well and coped with that pressure. Of course the crowd were giving him a wee bit of stick but it doesn’t bother him.
“He’s a boy with great temperament and he showed that tonight.”
Late spot kicks always put even the best and most experienced kickers under lots of pressure, but in Sinclair, Celtic can be rest assured of having a very reliable source of goals from the spot in such scenarios.
