Spanish giants Real Madrid have confirmed that Tottenham made a bid for midfielder Mateo Kovacic during the summer transfer window.
The Croatian international Kovacic made his first start of the season for Madrid on Tuesday night during the clubs Copa del Rey draw with CF Fuenlabrada and played 81 minutes of the game.
He had been strongly linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernaubeu during the summer transfer window and Real have no confirmed that they did indeed receive offers not just from Tottenham but from multiple clubs.
Madrid CEO Jose Angel Sanchez revealed that the club received many offers for the player during the summer and turned them all down.
He said: “Kovacic is not for sale, we will never sell him. If there are any offers for him in January, we will reject them. Last summer there were a lot of offers and questions about him.
“Juventus and AC Milan didn’t send offers, but Inter must have sent one. There was one from England, it was Tottenham.”
