Christiansen explains the reason why EPL promotion is still possible for Leeds

Although Leeds promotion ambitions took a big hit following a recent poor run, the Yorkshire club appear to have picked up steam, winning 2 of their last 3 league games.

The Whites – once atop the Championship log earlier in the campaign – are now 3 points off the playoffs places, and victory over Aston Villa on Friday will help push them further up the table.

Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen believes his players have managed to regain confidence following recent victories, and that could be key to boosting their promotion hopes.

The Danish reacted to Barnsley’s win saying: “For me it is another three points, for the players it is important to build on the confidence.

“The team is back, we are hoping the results will improve now. I am very pleased for the players to take three points.

“We had two very difficult games against teams who have been in the Premier League (Middlesbrough and Wolves) and then a derby where we have not done well in the past. It has been a very good week.

“It was our mission to take the three points and we did with a good performance. This is was what we needed and we can be positive going forward.”

Having lost 7 of their last 9 games prior to the win against Middlesbrough, the confidence of the Leeds players definitely took a huge blow.

However, the morale of the squad was through the roof at the start of the campaign when they went without a loss in their opening 7 games – only drawing 2.

Leeds face teams below them on the table in their next 10 league games, and while it doesn’t imply they will have the fixtures easy, they have a huge chance of picking up a lot of points that could boost their Premier League promotion hopes.

They will need a lot of confidence to accomplish the task.
