By scoring against Motherwell on Sunday, Celtic forward James Forrest entered the history books having now bagged a goal in 3 winning League Cup finals, equalling the record of the last Lisbon Lion to retire Bobby Lennox.
The 26-year-old has now scored 8 goals across all competitions this term, and is just a strike away from equalling his career best in front of goal.
Forrest is without a doubt in the best form of his career, and he believes he owes it to the impact of manager Brendan Rodgers.
Celtic have been on an unstoppable unbeaten run since the start of last season, and the Scotland internationalist reckons Rodgers instilling a strong mentality in the squad has been a huge reason for the impressive personal and club form.
Forrest revealed ahead of the midweek reunion with ‘Well: “I do think that I am playing some of the best football of my career
“I just think that I feel really fit and confident. I just feel as though I am playing in a lot of the big games and really enjoying being in there.
“That is what everyone wants to do. It is where you want to be and I am just loving my football at the minute.
“A lot of that comes from the manager. He has made it clear what he expects of us as individuals and as a team.
“I think it is clear what he wants but he has also created a really strong mentality too.
“We just want to win. We want to be as successful as we possibly can be and I want to have a part to play in that.
“It always feel good to know that you are making a contribution. We went out and won the first silverware on offer and it was nice to have a role to play in that.
“I enjoyed the goal but I always do! It was great to see it go into the net but we were calm.
“I think we always felt that if we just kept on doing what we were doing then we would get our rewards and that’s what happened.”
Celtic will be looking to wrap up Premiership triumph soon, while defending the Scottish Cup in order to complete back to back treble overhaul is also on the to-do list.
With players like Forrest firing on all cylinders, stopping the Hoops in Scotland will be almost impossible.
