Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino may need to rethink his attitude towards the FA Cup and League Cup following his team’s draw against struggling West Brom in the Premier League this weekend.
The draw virtually means that Spurs title hopes for this season have already ended. Considering City’s dominant form of late and Spurs’ mixed fortunes, the deficit between the two clubs in the Premier League is likely to get bigger as time progresses.
Pochettino played down the importance of competitions such as the FA Cup and League Cup earlier in the season and suggested that his team will be prioritizing the Premier League and Champions League.
Spurs supporters are desperate to land silverware as they have not won anything since 2008 when they won the League Cup. This season’s FA Cup could be the perfect opportunity for them to end their trophy drought.
With the Champions League only resuming in mid-February, Pochettino has no excuse not to field his strongest team in their FA Cup games between now and then.
