Ex-Tottenham star expects West Ham United star to be punished

Andrew Ayew

Football pundit Jermaine Jenas has criticized West Ham striker Andre Ayew and said that it should be looked into whether he should be punished for his theatrics during the Hammers draw with Leicester City on Friday.

The Ghana international appeared to simulate contact against Harry Maguire in an effort to convince referee Martin Atkinson to award a penalty.

Everton striker Oumar Niasse was handed a two match ban last week as a result of using simulation to win his side a penalty during their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

Niasse became the first Premier League player to be punished under the new rule and Jenas adds that he will not be surprised if Ayew is also punished.

“I would surprised if Ayew doesn’t get done for diving there. It is a shocking dive and fair play to Martin Atkinson for spotting it, but he should have booked him,” he told BBC Sport.
