Former Tottenham midfielder urges Arsenal to sign ex-Spurs star

Gareth Bale

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder David Bentley has urged London rivals Arsenal to trail ex-Spurs favorite Gareth Bale.

Arsenal look set to lose both of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil at the end of the season as both of the players are nearing the end of their respective contracts and look unlikely to sign new deals.

This means that the Gunners will need to replace two of their best players in a single transfer window, which is surely going to be a daunting task.

While Monaco’s Thomas Lemar has been touted as the potential marquee signing for Arsenal, former Spurs midfielder Bentley believes that the Gunners might be better off if they sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid instead.

Speaking with 88sport the former England international told, “If there was an option of going for Gareth Bale – who is available and can have an effect long-term – then Arsenal will pay the wages. That would put the cat among the pigeons. That would be controversial to say the least.

“But if you’re looking around the world at the minute for an unknown or a foreign player without Premier League experience then it’s very difficult to get them up to speed straight away. There are a few rumours and it wouldn’t surprise me if he was available and £86m would be a snip.

“Bale can do everything and is one of the best players I’ve ever seen. He’s also commercially good. If they can get him for £86m they can more than manage the £300,000 a week or whatever he’s on. That would be the player I’d target.”

Considering Bale’s struggles with Madrid, many believe that Los Blancos will sell the Welsh international and Arsenal can surely benefit from this signing.
