David Moyes’ first press conference as West Ham manager suggests he is willing to ruffle few feathers in order to get the best out of the players.
The overall fitness and discipline level of the squad have both been questioned this term, and with little time left to change the club’s fortunes and impress, Moyes is taking no prisoners.
The former Sunderland boss has already overseen a double training session on Wednesday, and it’s revealed the appointment of former Hammers Stuart Pearce will only make the players “unlikely to have too many easy days on the training pitch in the near future.”
Alan Irvine is set to be Moyes’ number 2, but talks are ongoing to have the former defender join the Scot’s backroom staff.
Nicknamed “Psycho” for his unforgiving style of play, the 55-year-old has since translated that passion, aggression and drive into his drills as a manager.
The West Ham players can surely do with such level of intensity in training, and while the new methods Pearce and Moyes bring to the table will be very demanding, it will no doubt bring out the best in the team.
