This Thursday, November 9, 2017 (11:45 AM Pacific) Croatia will host Greece at the Stadion Maksimir for a match in the UEFA World Cup qualifiers second round. Both teams were among the best in the first round of the competition and will now be fighting for a spot in the next World Cup.
Croatia finished second in Group I of the qualifiers with 20 points just behind Iceland in first with 22 points. The group was very competitive with teams like Turkey and Ukraine along with Iceland but Croatia managed to get that second-place finish. Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic proved to be one of the more vital players for his nation with five goals throughout the first round.
The Blazers have a very talented squad featuring players like Mandzukic, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic. The second leg in Greece will be a very tough match so Zlatko Dalic’s men will need to provide a strong performance in this match.
Greece was very impressive in the first round of the qualifiers, finishing second in Group H with 19 points. Piratiko was in a very competitive group with Belgium and Bosnia and Herzegovina but only lost once throughout the group stage. Marseille’s Kostas Mitroglou was crucial to Greece’s success with six goals from 10 games. The striker will be one of the main players to watch along with players like Sokratis and Kostas Manolas. The game should be very exciting with the monumental stakes in place and there is no clear winner heading into the qualifier.
