According to reports, Arsenal and Tottenham are battling each other in the race to sign Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka.
Goretzka’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and considering that his club have not been faring too well, he will likely not be keen to renew and wait for a fresh challenge.
Though the 22 year old has been a Gunners target for some time, Spurs have sent scouts to monitor the player’s performances for the majority of Schalke’s matches during the past month.
Given his age and talent, Goretzka fills the image of the type of player that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy considers signing and the club are likely to step up their interest as time progresses given that the player’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
German sources have confirmed that Goretzka wishes for a fresh challenge and is hoping to join either Barcelona or Bayern Munich.
