This Friday, November 3, 2017 (6:00 PM Pacific) Monarcas Morelia will host Cruz Azul at the Estadio Morelos for a game in the Liga MX Apertura 2017. Both teams are looking to make it into the playoffs and should provide a very hard-fought encounter in Michoacán.
Monarcas Morelia has been one of the surprises of this Apertura 2017 tournament, currently in third place with 26 points. La Monarquia has a foot in the door in the playoffs and is in much better form than its opponent in this match. The team from Michoacán is undefeated in its last six games and is coming off a narrow 1-0 win against Toluca away from home.
Diego Valdes scored his fourth goal of the season in that game to give Morelia the win over Toluca and he and players like Raul Ruidiaz and Sebastian Sosa have made this team a force. Roberto Hernandez’s team has been especially lethal at home, only losing one out of seven games at the Estadio Morelos.
Cruz Azul has been slowly declining into pushing out of a playoff spot in recent weeks now in ninth place with 21 points. The team under Paco Jemez has proven to be detrimental and surely the Spanish manager is set to leave Mexico after this tournament wraps up. La Maquina has now lost two consecutive games, coming off a 2-1 loss against Tigres UANL at home.
This will be an extremely tough game for the Mexico City team that is now highly unlikely to make a top eight finish. The game should be very entertaining between two teams that are fighting to feature in the playoffs after the regular season ends.
