Southampton star Maya Yoshida has admitted that his team-mate Virgil van Dijk found his summer transfer debacle difficult but did add that the Dutchman is now once again happy with life at St Mary’s.
Van Dijk was strongly linked with a move to the Reds, however in the end the move did not go through as the Saints refused to sell despite the former Celtic man having handed in a transfer request.
It remains to be seen if van Dijk will end up leaving for Liverpool during the January transfer window. However considering that the Reds are clearly struggling defensively, there is a good chance that they could attempt to swoop for him.
Yoshida said: “He is good. He is enjoying every day. I think he smiles a lot. It is very comfortable with him – he never brings any negativity. That’s his future, his decision.
“But in this moment he is really comfortable, I think. It is tough for him but the most important thing is he is with us now and he puts everything on it with Southampton. That is the most important [thing].
“Maybe in the future something will happen, but at this moment he gives everything to the club. That is very good.”
