Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has expressed hope that his goal against Huddersfield on Saturday could help him to re-establish himself as a regular within the first team.

Sturridge scored his 100th career goal as the Reds managed to get themselves a 3-0 win over the Terriers and he also took his club tally to 62 from 130 games.

The 28 year old was handed only his fourth start of the season during the game and has seen his progress as a player diminished by a series of injuries during the past three years.  He does hope that his performance can earn him a starting position on a more regular basis.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, he said: “It’s (about) getting that rhythm, that flow. For myself, I feel like I’m best when I’m like that playing regularly.

“But the manager picks the team and I’ll never cause any issues or problems in the camp because he’s the boss, I have a lot of respect for him and for his decisions.

“When I go onto the pitch it’s important for me to show what I can do. It doesn’t matter how many minutes you get, you’ve got to put your best foot forward and show what you can do for the team.

“I’m grateful for his faith in me (on Saturday) and hopefully I’ve repaid him with the goal.”
