Celtic’s biggest chance of advancing to the Champions League round of 16 hangs on Tuesday’s home encounter with Bayern Munich on matchday 4.
The Scottish giants need to shock their German counterparts and get a “not-impossible” victory to draw level on points, but they have been dealt a huge injury blow ahead of the clash.
English winger Patrick Roberts sustained a knock during the Hoops’ Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock, and was withdrawn 30 minutes into the clash.
Although further tests will be taken to determine for how long the Manchester City loanee will sit out of action, manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed post-game that the 21-year-old won’t be available for Tuesday’s showdown.
He revealed: “It looks like a hamstring so we will get a scan on that.
“It was frustrating for him as I thought he started the game very well in those one-v-ones.
“I would suggest he will probably be out for a few weeks.”
Celtic couldn’t take much control of the game following Roberts’ exit, and were limited in working the visitors’ defence.
Having such quality winger available for the Bayern clash would have come as a big boost for the Bhoys, but they now have to find a way to eke out a much-needed result with other options.
