Rangers failed with a £300,000 transfer bid for Aberdeen midfielder Kenny McLean during the summer transfer window, but they have been handed a boost ahead of a January move.
Dons boss Derek McInnes has revealed that the Scottish playmaker could be allowed to leave Pittodrie during the winter transfer window if the right offer is tabled.
The 25-year-old won’t be signing a new deal once his current contract expires at the end of the season, and while Aberdeen are ready to lose him for free in the summer, a juicy offer could see them agree to a sale midway through the campaign.
Rangers have been struggling since the first ball was kicked this term, and rather than give the Dons a run for the money at the top of the table, they are at a risk of losing out to Motherwell as 2nd runners-up.
Massive recruitment during the summer doesn’t seem to be doing the desired job, and with growing calls for homegrown signings with knowledge of the Scottish League, an early move for McInnes could interest the Gers.
However, considering they can get him for free by summer, the Ibrox outfit might hesitate to pay more than the £300,000 Aberdeen are asking for.
