This Wednesday, October 25, 2017 (5:00 PM Pacific) Santos Laguna will host Necaxa at the Estadio Corona TSM for a match in the round of 16 in the Copa MX. Both teams are living distinct moments from one another in the Liga MX but should still provide a very entertaining match in Torreon.
Santos Laguna has been a disappointing team in the Liga MX Apertura 2017, currently in 13th place with 15 points. Los Guerreros still have a game in hand and could potentially reach the playoffs in the Liga MX but a cup run in this Copa MX seems like the only salvageable achievement left in this Apertura.
The team from Torreon finished first in Group 7 with nine points, ahead of FC Juarez and Chivas of Guadalajara and will have a very winnable fixture against Necaxa in this round of 16. It is unclear if manager Robert Siboldi will use all of his key players but some consistent starters are likely to feature in his starting XI.
Necaxa has been exceeding expectations in the Liga MX Apertura 2017, currently seventh with 21 points. Los Rayos are aggressively pushing for a playoff spot and it seems like Ignacio Ambriz is likely to use an alternate starting XI for this game. The team from Aguascalientes finished second in Group 9 with seven points behind Monarcas Morelia and ahead of Zacatecas.
Ambriz counts with plenty of depth on his team and some notable bench players that could feature include Martin Barragan, Xavier Baez, Jesus Isijara, Pablo Velazquez and Dieter Villalpando. These two teams already met in the Liga MX this season and the game ended in a very exciting 3-2 win for Santos Laguna, this game is promising and should be one to watch this Wednesday.
